The Consecration … 

Wilfred Gregory Moras from St Roque’s Parish Neerude Mangalore.  He opted to study for the Missions and was ordained for the diocese of Lucknow.  He was elected as the coadjutor Bishop of Jhansi 11. 05. 2024,  And was ordained on 06. 08. 2024, by the Archbishop of Agra Raphy Manjaly, in the presence of His Eminence Leopoldo Girelli the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal. 

Co-consecrators to the Ordination ceremony was Most Rev. Peter Parapullil (Bishop of Jhansi) and Most Rev. Gerald John Mathias (Bishop of Jhansi).  The Presentation of the candidate was done by Rev. Father Tarcius Britto the Vicar Genral of the Diocese of Jhansi.  And the Apostolic letter was announce to the public by the Rev. Fr. Arulraj of the Diocese of Jhansi. 

A great crowd of priests from the diocese as well as various dioceses across the states added to the ceremony.  The family members as well as numerous friends of Bishop Elect came to witness the Holy event.  Nearly ten thousand people watched the event online.  

The ordination ceremony took place in Christ the King College ground.  The well decorated stage held the Altar. The ceremony took place in the presence of nearly three thousand people from all walks of life.  However, over a ten thousand has witness the ceremony online which was aired by the media team.  A well organized Choir uplifted the mood of the faithful to prayer.

A meticulously planned Liturgical service spread an ambience of devotion.  Adding to the faith expression of the Liturgy, a well nit homily by Most Rev. Ignatius D’Souza took the entire liturgy ahead including the ceremony of ordination to a level above ordinary.  The ceremony of the ordination was extensively expressed the devotion. 

The Liturgy concluded with utmost devotion and open the way for a very short felicitation in honor of the newly ordained Bishop Wilfred Gregory Moras, who addressed the audience with a statement in Hindi saying: “Ishwar ka sevak Bishop Wilfred ka pehla abhivadan sweekary ho – Jai Yesu.”  (Please accept the first greetings from the servant of God Bishop Wilfred – Jai Yesu.) 

A sumptuous meal awaited all.  It was a well appreciated event.  The rest is to unfold gradually to fulfillment.  Our prayers and participation is the only ingredient that can accomplish the aimed. 

Bishop Wilfred expressed as he concluded with a sweet smile: “Maati ka putla hu me, apse juda ni hu, prem daya aur karuna dikhana Kyo ki me bhi insane hu, khuda ni hu.” (… I am also a human being and not God! )  However, our hope and prayer is that You will definitely lead the flock to God!  May God Be Praised !

Bishop Wilfred Gregory Moras
The Bishop of Jhansi

(The Installation as the Bishop of Jhansi,  at St. Anthony’s Cathedral, on the 6th January 2025)

On the 28th December 2024 the announcement came from the Pope regarding the acceptance of the resignation from Bp Peter Parapullil as the Shepherd of Jhansi and the appointment of Wilfred Gregory Moras as the Bishop of Jhansi.  As its effects a public ceremony as the installation ceremony was Scheduled on the 6th January 2025 at St Anthony’s Cathedral Jhansi in the Evening 5.00 p.m. 

The ceremony witnessed the presence of Archbishop Raphy Manjaly of Agra, Bp Emeritus Albert D’Souza, Bishop Gerald Mathias of Lucknow, Bishop Joseph Thykkattil of Gwalior, Bishop Louis Mascarenhas of Allahabad, Bishop Joseph Kallarckal of Jaipur, Bishop Bhaskar Jesuraj of Meerut, Bishop Oswald Lewis – the Apostolic Administrator of Ajmer and indeed the presence of Bishop Emeritus Peter Parapullil. 

The ceremony was witnessed by all the priests of the diocese and few guest priests from nearby dioceses.  Presence of Numerous Religious and the lay people added to the devotion.

The solemn Eucharist was presided over by the new Bishop Wilfred Gregory Moras.  A befitting sermon by Abp. Raphy Manjaly was a spark that ignite all of our ministry including the lay people who are also in a way shepherd.  

Solemn Eucharistic celebration concluded to open the space to Thank Bishop Emeritus Peter Parapullil and to congratulate the Bishop Wilfred Moras.  Apart from the Conventional flowers and shawls, heart warming messages from Bishop Owsald Lewis, Bishop Albert D’Souza, Fr Richard Arul, and representing the lay people Benedict Wilson from OLPH Parish Jhansi carried our memories to the hard work done by Bp Peter Parapullil.  

It was a moment of joyous laughter when Bishop Peter came to the mike saying “I am very happy to say that I am truly happy”.  The audience lauded to his simple, witty expression as some times do.  All applauded gratefully to the words of ‘Happy-Peter’. 

The final speaker of the occasion was of course Rt. Rev. Wilfred Gregory Moras the Bishop of Jhansi who gratefully began his speech for all and concluded saying.  “I don’t know what holds me in times to come but I know who holds me – Jesus.  The words from beginning to the last expression of Thanks witnessed happiness, trust and confidence. 

The Evening concluded with an agape for all who gathered.  As all departed to their own respective spaces, we all wish the old a ‘gold of memories’ and to the new ‘a new horizon with hope strength and support in the Lord !’
