Sacred Heart Mission, Paaricha
Parichha was first visited by protestant missionaries as part of their expansion programme on the Jhansi-Kanpur Highway. A handful of Christians were baptized in and around Parichha. It was around 1980, the Government decided to established the thermal power plant and began building across Betwa River.
A few Catholics also landed with the building company. By 1982, Fr. Peter Parapullil was visiting Parichha every Sunday to celebrate mass for the Catholics there. There was a need felt for a mission on the Kanpur Road. By mid 80s, Bishop Frederick D’Souza and Fr. Tony Sammut were looking for a piece of land to start a mission. It was then the thermal power plant headed by Mr. K.C Goel, the then chief project manager invited the Catholic Diocese of Jhansi to start an English Medium School for the board employees. Through the mediation of Fr. ND Augustine, the then Vicar General, the process began for the necessary official arrangements and agreements.
Fr. Alex Mascarenhas was appointed as priest in-charge in 1988. The board gave temporary quarter (along the old dispensary) till the residence was constructed in the allotted land. By then, there was a repeated request by the Mother General of the Congregation of Daughters of Sacred Heart (DSH) for an institution. Bishop Frederick D’Souza invited the DSH sisters to run the school. On July 1, 1988 Mr. U.K. Agarwal, the then general manager, approved and gave permission to start of the school. Fr. Eugene Rosario followed up with the details of agreement and establishing the school. In 1991. Sr. Laetitia Cardoza took up as the new principal of the school. It was on April 5, 1994 the school was shifted from the old dispensary to the new building. And from then on priests were appointed as priests in-charge. The Catholic population in Parichha is unstable as the factory employees and CISF personnel get transferred any time round the year. There are a few resident Catholics and
Christians.
