INFANT JESUS MISSION

Chirgaon is a town and a Municipal Board in Jhansi District, which is located 30 km away from Jhansi on the Jhansi-Kanpur highway. The place is famous for being the birth place of Maithili Sharan Gupta, the National Poet. He is also considered one among the pioneers of Khadi Boli Poetry.

Chirgaon is also said to have actively involved in Freedom Movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, who had visited Chirgaon more than one occasion. From 1935-45 hundreds of Chirgaon youth joined the movement. Many of the young generation still pursue the art of poetry here. The town is a model of the earlier structure of Indian towns. It is in this place at a village named Modkhurd, the Diocese of Jhansi established a mission station in 2010 in view of serving people, and appointed Fr. Robert Henry as the Mission In-charge and to build and start a school which is dedicated to Infant Jesus. Subsequently, the Prabhudasi Sisters were invited to work in the mission as well as in the school, and a convent was built for them in 2011. Presently, the Infant Jesus School is up to XStd affiliated to CBSE Board. Presently, Fr. Sebatian Dennis is the principal.
