St. John Bosco Mission Lalitpur.
The founding priest of Lalitpur Mission was Fr. Charles Huntingford. Fr. Charles, a native of Malta arrived in India in 1948. Being inspired by St. Don Bosco, he desired to begin a school of carpentry and weaving for the poor young boys. Initially he had to live in a tent. He planned his venture by inviting trained
carpenters and weavers from Tanjore, which remarkably changed the lives of 30 young boys who underwent training. Later, this vocational training centre turned into an academic institution. St. Dominic Savio Boarding was started in 1948 as an apostolic school primarily to prepare boys aspiring for priesthood, and also to educate poor Catholic children. Boys, aged between 7 to 18 years, were accommodated in the boarding. The boarding strives for the holistic development of its inmates.
The mission also has three schools namely St. Dominic Savio Convent Inter College (Hindi Medium), St. Dominic Savio English Medium ICSE School, and St. Don Bosco Academy (CBSE) established in 1956, 1980 and 2017 respectively. These institutions progressed gradually and steadily with the toil and dedication of priests. At present, there are 2000 students in ICSE English medium,1100 students in Hindi medium and 1070 in CBSE School. The parish has three religious communities namely Missionaries of Charity (MC), St. Anne’s Bangalore (SAB) and Daughters of the Sacred Heart (DSH) who contribute in the field of education, healthcare and social service. The parish has 25 Catholic families.
